Hello readers! It’s time to start the “Rant about Sunscreen” blog. We promise not to make it too difficult for you. We’ll give you some great tips on including proper sun protection in your daily routine without complicating it.
This photo was recently found in an article on the sun’s aging effects. It shocked me so much that I sent it immediately to Trina and waited for her “I told you so!” response. I will admit that despite all the warnings she gives me about sun damage, and how it can affect my skin, I am stubbornly convinced that I don’t have to worry about it because I don’t spend much time outside in the sun. This picture utterly changed me. This photo is of a 69-year-old truck driver who worked for 28 years. For 28 years, his left side was exposed to the sun through his truck’s driver’s side windows. It’s evident from the photo, so it isn’t necessary to explain it.
I am taking the next step and becoming more sun-responsible. Trina shared so many tips and tricks that I am finally using them. We decided to share them with you.
Broad Spectrum sunscreens should have an SPF of 30 or more. Reapply every three to four hours, more frequently if you’re on the beach or hiking.
*Remember to apply sunscreen after you have finished using your makeup. This is where mineral powders come in handy. You can apply them dry over your makeup. They can be applied with or without a tint. They come in a range of SPFs from 30-50. These are great to have in your car or purse so you can reapply as often as you like. Some of our favorites are Colourescience Jane Iredale Glo Minerals and La Bella Donna.
Your face is essential. Banana Boat is great for your skin but can be very greasy and pore-clogging on your face. You will feel more likely to use it if you have a breakout or feel greasy. La Roche Posay sunscreen is the best if you have to buy it from a pharmacy. We recommend using a more premium skincare line for your skin. Jan Marini has a great one. It has microscopic sponges that absorb oil, so it doesn’t feel heavy.
Physical sunscreen is recommended for those with sensitive skin or allergies to chemical sunscreens. Physical sunscreen is made from Titanium Dioxide (pure minerals) and Zinc Oxide. This sunscreen looked like it had been painted on your face in the past. And we all know that nobody wants to be seen looking like a shirtless, painted man at a football match. This is not true today. Physical sunscreens can be used under your moisturizer, just like regular sunscreen. Skinceuticals offers a liquid sunscreen. Mix it with your moisturizer and use it in the morning.
